THE DAIRY VALUE CHAIN - KENYA
Dairy is the largest agricultural sub-sector in Kenya, at ~4% of GDP and 19% of AgGDP.
Approximately 5 billion litres of milk are produced each year with the vast majority (over 80%) produced by small-holder farmers. Around 55% of the milk produced each year is marketed with the rest used for home consumption. Production is growing at approximately 3% per year due to increased organisation in the value chain and growing consumer demand.
